We all know:

  1. FR-Layer 2 address - DLCI
  2. MPLS-Layer 2 address - Label
  3. Ethernet-Layer 2 address - MAC Address.

What is the layer 2 address used by PPP & HDLC?

Hi!

HDLC and PPP are point-to-point protocols for serial lines, they do not use L2 addresses as FR or Ethernet since there is no point for it, they are connected only and only to one neighbor.

Please refer to the following link for information about the header of these protocols:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco_HDLC

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol

Please let me know if this has not been clear or there is need for extend the information.

Best regards!
