Hi All,
I have the following configs setup on two switches. My question is if i have a layer 3 port channel setup on one end with channel mode ON, will I also need to bundle the other end? I did the below configs and it worked. The port channel came up and both ports were forwarding on the other end. My question is how will traffic past through both ports when going to the layer 3 ip address.
Switch A
Int range fa0/1-2
no switchport
channel-group 11 mode on
int po 11
ip address 192.168.7.1 255.255.255.0
Switch B
Int range fa0/1-2
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 7

Hi,
If you want to build a layer-3 Portchannel between 2 switches, you need to bundle both sides with IP address on both sides.

Hi,
For the port channel function correctly,
you need to set the two switches
properly with port channel on 2 switches,
for the purpose of channel port is to have multiple ports
They behave as if they were one port. So I recommend you
set 2 switches with port channel. And it is working
because the B switch ports are forwarding based on the mac address,
and not in the port channel because the port channel is probably not
functioning as the switch B is as layer 2 switchport mode and
switchport access vlan 7. Therefore, I recommend setting up 2 switches
with port channel, and the same IP address.
And passing traffic due to packet address, the mac's tables of the switch A and switch B as the
IP address of the port channel is for the port channel management, and not forwarding traffic.
Thank you.
