Hi I have WS-C4510R-E (L3 Switch Software (cat4500-ENTSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(44)SG1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) with two Sup V-10GE 10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP) WS-X4516-10GE.
The supervisor SPF+ interfaces Gi5/3,Gi5/4 Gi6/3,Gi6/4 are taken and in use. I would like o add one X2-10GB-SR per each supervisor and connect it with another 10GB SG350XG-2F10 switch to add some addition to the network core with more 10Gb conencitons.
Here I found some limitation to TwinGig
Supervisor Engine 6-E, Supervisor Engine 6L-E,
and Catalyst 4900M connect ports to the switching
engine through a stub ASIC. This stub ASIC imposes some limitations on the ports: Gigabit and
10-Gigabit ports cannot be mixed on a single stub ASIC; they must either be all 10-Gigabit Ethernet
(X2), or all Gigabit (TwinGig Converter and SFP). The faceplates of X2 modules show this stub port
grouping, either with actual physical grouping with a box drawn around a grouping.
Just want to ask and clarify if what I plan do will work, and above statement oly apply to 6-E Sup?

Beginning with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SG, you could simultaneously deploy the dual 10-GigabitEthernet ports and the four Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports on the Catalyst 4503, Catalyst 4506, and Catalyst 4507R chassis. When you deploy a Catalyst 4510R chassis, one of the following configurations is supported:• Dual 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports (X2 optics) only.• Four Gigabit Ethernet ports (SFP optics) only.• Both the dual 10-Gigabit Ethernet and the four Gigabit Ethernet ports. The tenth slot (Flex-Slot) only supports a 2-port gigabit interface converter (GBIC) line card (WS-X4302-GB) when in thismode.• You cannot place a line card with a backplane traffic capacity exceeding 6 Gbps in slots 8, 9, and 10 of a Catalyst 4510R-E chassis when used with a Supervisor Engine 6-E or Supervisor Engine 6L-E.
Currently I am on 12.2(44)SG1 so I assume that "both the dual 10-Gigabit Ethernet and the four Gigabit Ethernet ports" is supported?
Could you confirm if this is true or not?
Thank you.

Hello,
You can use following command to enable support for both Tengig and gig uplinks. You will need to reload the box to take this command in effect.
hw-module uplink select all
In this mode, two 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports and four Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports are active: tengig5/1, gig5/3, , gig5/4 on slot 5; and tengig6/1, gig6/3, gig6/4 on slot 6.
Note that in this mode, slot 10 (FlexSlot) is usable only with the 2-port Gigabit Ethernet switching module (WS-X4302-GB).

Hello,
please see my answers .
Q1. Yes I am talking about the third mode ("hw-module uplink select all"). With SUPV-10GE, you cant use WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 in slot 10 when this third mode is enabled. You can use only 2-port GBIC (WS-X4302-GB) and the Access Gateway Module (WS-X4604-GWY) at slot 10 .
So in a nutshell, if you want both tengig and gig uplinks on each sup, then you will not be able to use WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 module in slot 10. If you need to use that card at slot 10 then uplink mode should be either mode 1 or mode 2 (gigabitethernet or tengigabitethernet).

Q2. You wont be able to use Gi5/5-6 and Gi6/5-6 but Gi5/3-4 and Gi6/3-4 will remain active.
Look at this sample output where it indicates Gi5/5-6 and Gi6/5-6 will remain Inactive.

Gi5/4 disabled 1 full 1000 No Gbic

Gi5/6 inactive 1 full 1000 No Gbic <<<<<<<<<<

I have Sup V-10GE and currently slot 10 is taken by WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 switching module
According to that page:
For both:10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet uplinks mode,
two 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports and four Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports are active:
tengig1/1, gig1/3, and gig1/4 on slot 5; and
tengig2/1, gig2/3, and gig2/4 on slot 6.
In this mode, slot 10 (FlexSlot) is usable only with the 2-port Gigabit Ethernet switching module (WS-X4302-GB).
:Q1: Does it mean that with third mode
hw-module uplink select all
I can not use slot 10 (FlexSlot) for 48-port X4548-GB-RJ45 switching module?
Mod Ports Card Type Model .

2 48 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45
3 48 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45

6 6 Sup V-10GE 10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP) WS-X4516-10GE
7 48 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45

10 48 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45
Looking at Figure 7
seems like only four 1GE ports can be used together with two 10GE?
:Q2: I am wonder how it will apply when I use already interface Gi5/3,Gi5/4 and Gi6/3 and Gi6/4
would I be able to use Gi5/5, Gi5/6 and Gi6/5, Gi6/6 ?

Last question to clarify one thing:
According to : http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12-2/44sg/configuration/guide/Wrapper-44SG/sw_int.html#wp1066964
...
• Both the dual 10-Gigabit Ethernet and the four Gigabit Ethernet ports, with the understanding that the tenth slot (Flex-Slot) will only support a 2-port gigabit interface converter (GBIC) line card (WS-X4302-GB) when in this mode.
Q3. Is it required to have any module installed in slot 10? Or it can be empty?
08-10-2016 08:06 PM
Hello,
You can leave slot 10 empty. If you put any module other than WS-X4302-GB in slot 10 then it will remain down/ unsupported.
