Load balancing

Hi. I have two public ip adds used by two ports S0 and S1. My primary isp is linked to S0 and i have a backup isp linked to S1. Currently, i have a default route pointing to S0. Is there a way to enable S1 also where should the bandwidth for s0 reach above 90%, the router would automatically reroute to S1?

Thanks.

Hello Mark,

what you are looking is not what is meant for load balancing.

Load balancing is when you use both links outbound (may be by using two default static routes with the same parameters).

Redundancy or backup is when you use a floating default static router out of S1.

In order to use the second link when the first is near congestion you need something like OER (Optimized Edge Routing) that will monitor RTT to some prefixes in order to decide what link to use

Hope to help

Giuseppe
