Hi there,
We have a 3750 stack of 3 switches.
I need to take a switch out of that stack and load the Startup configuration files at that switch and add it back to another stack.
I already copied the configurations to be loaded in that switch using the TFTP server at my laptop.
My question is how can I upload the configurations at that switch? That switch is not part of any stack now.
Thanks
Hamidul

I have usually applied the config after the switch is added to the stack...I'm not sure you can add it before, and even if you did I'm not sure that it would keep it once you add it to the stack. What I've usually been most concerned with is that the code is good on the new switch...

Hi Dbass,
I did not get your code part. I agree with you after adding the switch to the stack, that will load the configurations from the stack master.
Anyway, If I want to load configurations on that particular switch,
1.how should I do that? or How can I use theconsole port to load the config file?
2. What is the config.text file under the show flash command? Is that the running-config file?
Thanks

What I meant by code is that the code on the switch you're adding needs to be compatible with the code that's already running on the stack. I usually just put the same one on there to keep it simple in addition to other design and standardization stuff as well.
With regard to the config for the new switch, I don't think you need to put it on the switch first. I think that the stack master switch will automatically add the config back in once you put the switch in the stack. If not, then you just copy and paste it in once done. The only thing you're really worried about anyway is the interface config...

Hi
The IOS images are same for all the switches. And I got your points. I am just considering the worst situation.
In case if that newly added switch or the master switch fails to synchronize the changes how can I upload the running config files at that particular switch?

If it does not sync the changes, then you simply modify your existing
configuration and paste it on the switch (via the stack master). You should see
the ports available to be configured after the switch is added to the
stack...they just may be numbered something else (ie: was g3/0/1-48, and now
4/0/1-48).

Question 1. Can you please give me an example of copy and paste command that I should execute at Master Switch?
Question 2. How would I upload configurations file in a switch? Assume that switch is not part of any stack.
Thanks.

1. You have the config in a text file correct? You just edit it as needed, then highlight it, then right click and select copy. Then go in to config mode on the switch, then right click and then select paste. There is not a config command to cut and paste, so I'm quite confused as to what you're asking here?????
2. Copy tftp start. You can also cut and paste the config in once in config mode on the switch console.
Have you configured a cisco switch or router before?
