ME3400 drops traffic after configuration changes

I have a ME 3400 that is acting flaky.  I have this device acting as a distribution switch and it is reachable on VLAN 127, which is one of the VLANS trunked to our core network.   When I try to configure one of the fastethernet ports (changing duplex; doing a shut / no shut), it causes my GI uplink and VLAN 127 to go down.  Sometimes it comes back up, sometimes it doesnt.  I am access the device over this GI uplink so I obviously I lose connectivity.  The fastethernet port isn't even in the same VLAN.

Any ideas from anyone?

majority of config is:

spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
no spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission
spanning-tree etherchannel guard misconfig
spanning-tree extend system-id

Hello Alice,

The behavior is quite strange indeed. When you say the link goes down, are you referring to the line protocol, spanning tree not forwarding, link stays up but not able to ping across? Do you have any log messages generated as a result? You may need to open a TAC case on this issue. I doubt it will be an easy fix. You can open the TAC case from this tool.

Fabienne.
