MI FPGA and IO FPGA

Hi,

I'm looking into what "MI FPGA" and "IO FPGA" are as it pertains to the Cisco Nexus 93180-YC switch architecture. I know that the MI FPGA is between the front panel ports and the Platform Controller Hub. From my research, I understand that the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) - is an integrated circuit which can be re-programmed in the field - normally by a Cisco update.

However, trivial as it may seem, I just wanted to know what the "MI" meant.

Hi Chris,

Excellent question! The "MI" in "MI FPGA" sounds for Media Interface. This makes logical sense, as the role of the MI FPGA (among many other things) is to interact with the I2C buses for each transceiver cage.

I hope this helps - thank you!
