Hoping someone can help me with this-
Basically I have a network spread across two cabinets running on 12 Catalyst 3650 switches- we have a new MITEL phone system going in and it needs a dedicated VLAN. I’m told the new system supports CDP so shouldn’t need any manual configuration on the VLAN front as each phone will get the VLAN ID from the DHCP server.
So what I’m thinking is that I just need to create 2 VLANs- one on the default ID for all the PCs so I don’t need to change anything or map out the patches or anything and another VLAN dedicated to the new phone system which will then send out the VLAN ID via DHCP.
So far as I can tell that should all be fine- the only thing is how to implement it. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Are you sure MITEL phones support CDP? CDP is a Cisco proprietary protocol, and is is usually supported on Cisco devices only.

That's what I've been told by the phone supplier-
I had them demo the system for me and managed to distribute a VLAN ID to the phones by DHCP which immediately prevented them from communicating with the other devices on the network; so that part of the system seems fine.
I suppose ultimately what I'm looking for is how to deploy a VLAN configuration across multiple cisco switches where I don't have to lock specific ports on the switch to a given VLAN.
