Multicast on 3560 and 3750 switches

I want to enable multicast features on the LAN. We have several VLAN's. VLAN 10 = Server VLAN, VLAN 20 = Client VLAN.

3560 are layer 2 access switches, via trunk connected to 3750 (layer 3). 3750 routes between VLAN's. Is it possible to set up multicast in this scenario ?

Multicast routing on 3750. PIM sparse / dense mode is only supported with IP Services image ? What can we do with PIM Stub ??

already read these documents. Doesn't make sense to me. Is it possible with IP Base image ? What does the IP PIM Stub command do ?

So on the firsgt page of the PIM Stub URL, in the first paragraph on the whole page it says "Multicast control plane traffic is always seen by every router on a LAN environment. The Stub IP Multicast is used to reduce and minimize the unnecessary multicast traffic that is seen on LAN in the access layer and save the bandwidth on the media to forward multicast traffic to the upstream distribution/core layer.

In the Catalyst 3750 and 3560 Series Switches, the PIM Stub Multicast feature supports multicast routing between the distribution layer and access layer. It supports two types of PIM interfaces: uplink PIM interfaces and PIM passive interfaces. In particular, a routed interface configured with the PIM Passive mode does not pass/forward PIM control plane traffic; it only passes/forwards IGMP traffic."

Check the feature navigator for the version of software you are running, if multicasting is available:-

I can read... That's not the problem... I do not understand what that means. Control plane traffic ? Multicast routing between access and distri layer ? That's why i opened this conversation.. I think tha't it is not possible with the ip base image..

To be honest, you need to do more reading - as you are missing alot of the basics, not just multicasting.

To get you on your way - read the below links, this will help with what you want to do without an IOS that supports multicast routing.

Hi,

Using AirPlay on Apple iOS and Apple TV devices.

I've setup:

ip multicast-routing distributed

on a 3560 running IP Services and on the two vlans:

ip pim sparse-dense-mode

I'm able to see the Apple TV devices while on the same subnet, but once I switch to the other subnet, the devices are no longer visible.

Any suggestions?
