Hi...
so i was looking at the N5k and just wonder what the maximum distance is for a connection to a N2k??
is this something similar to stacking 3750's where the connection is made with the stack wise cable, therefore they have to be relatively close
or is it just a simple uplink ?? where the distance is governed by the cable/sfp???
Regards
D.

Hi Dave,
• Distance between Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extender and Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switch: Up to 3 km (300m for FCoE traffic)
taken from the following 2k data sheet:

Hi David, a question I can actually answer . The N2K's connect to the N5Ks by a 10 Gb connection that is configured on the 5K as a FEX (Fiber Extender) port. Essentially the when the 2K comes up it's just a dumb device with no config (very similar to an LWAPP AP); after boot it will look to the 5K for the correct code and any configuration it needs to load.
Check out this design guide for help: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9670/C07-572829-01_Design_N5K_N2K_vPC_DG.pdf
