Yes it can be used as the supplicent with the correct image

I am using latest released image(15.2sy) to configure this..

Below  two commends are not supported on my supplicant switch(C6509-E) port...

dot1x pae supplicant

dot1x credentials neat

Yes so mine dont fully support it either its only specifc versions , the way to find out which 1 is to use the feature navigator but if you are running the latest you will prob need to downgrade it to an earlier release

go to research features

select technology-security vpn-authentication protocols- IEEE802.1x Supplicant

from there you will be able to see what versions supported the syntax
