I would like to know is there any option to know the network traffic usage or statistics overall for a particular cisco switch other than going for a network monitoring tool? If so can anyone help me with the commands and its explanation?

Traffic usage of a switch or traffic usage of a port in a switch?
How far of a history do you want to see, 30-, 60-, 90-, 1 year, 2 years, etc?
How granular, per minute, every 5 minutes, 15 minutes, etc?

Traffic usage of a switch not the individual port. History can be for every 5 or 15 mins anything is enough which are availble.

This need to be defined correctly, You can monitor the switch uplink ports to look how switch providing overall network in and out of that switch, most of the information should get via SNMP OID, so look at the OID with SNMP walk or ask your NMS vendor to help you.
If the OID not support then its out of the box, then you need to use API/ scripts to get the command level stats and make them to use of in your NMS.
Again depends what switch model and IOS Code running, Modern IOS XE have more advanced level command available to view compare to Legacy IOS.

You may read the device model configuration guide on maintaining the device and look at the switch monitor command or any SNMP OID that suits your requirements.
