New Cisco 1000 series switches vs 29xx etc

Hi All

Can anyone give me a quick update on the 1000 series switches, who would use these?

We normally run the 2960X, 2960CX and 9200's etc

Would we lose any functionality moving to these from our current platforms?

Many thanks

Carl

Catalyst 1k runs on "classic" IOS (not IOS-XE).  It is purely simple Layer 2 switch with PoE.  Not sure how well it works with Dot1X.

Now for the "crunch":  STACKING

Catalyst 1000 does not support stacking like the 2960S/X/XR or 3750 or 3650/3850.  It uses an old method of stacking called Switch Clustering and the marketing/sales people have re-named it as Simple IP Management.

Hi

So are you saying the stacking on them is purely for management only and it does not work like traditional stacking for example, you wouldn't be able to use etherchannel between 2 switches in the stack etc ?

cheers

I don't have any so I can't say if inter-chassis Port Channel will work (or not).
