Hi, Cisco Expert

We have some questions about nexus 2248T with 5010.

We designed 12 x server cabinets with 2 network cabinets per row.

each server cabinets has a 2248T on top. and 2 x nexus 5010 in the network cabinets.

question here:

1. how can we connect  2248T between two 5010 for fully redundant?

  • If primany nex5010 down, secondary take over fex control???

2.    If one 2248T crashed, we buy a new one, connect to 5010,

  • Does both 2248T and 5010 need to be reboot for image push?

Thanks.

Hello Huang,

I will suggest you go through the document available at the following URL for a better understanding of the options available to you as far as connecting FEX to N5K is concerned:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9670/C07-572829-01_Design_N5K_N2K_vPC_DG.pdf

To answer your questions:

  1. You can dual home each FEX to the two Nexus 5010 parent switches in a vPC model, however, once you do that you will not have the option of running vPC to your servers so keep that in mind.
  2. When you connect a new N2K to a N5K the N5K does not require a reboot. The N2K will download the image and reboot itself once it registers with a master N5K.

One more question.

the links between 5010 and 2248T.

I have to using FET-10G + MMF cable or using twinax. (within 10meter)

Thanks.

FET is cost efficient option of FEX to N5K connectivity but it is not the only option. You can use SFP+ for this connectivity as well which gives you options of using the copper attached SFP+, SFP+ (LR/SR) for distances up to 300metre. Today FEX and N5K can be separated at most by 300m. Distances over 300m are not supported.
