no snmp-server [CR] command

Hi,

I am trying to streamline SNMP configs on my Wireless and switched setup.
As there are many different SNMP settings in the devices, so i would think it is a good idea to start from the same point - i.e. scratch - and then  input the commands as I want them to be.

Only issue is that, When I issue "no snmp-server" and hit enter all SNMP  cfg are gone, but as soon as I type in just one , any given snmp-server  command - no matter what - ALL THE OLD CFG IS BACK in running-config!

Any way other ways to scratch the SNMP cfg and start over ?

My AP are C1242 and 1231, but same behavoir gomes for a C2960 switch
I run 12.2.52 IOS on the switch and 12.3.8 on the AP's

PS

no snmp-server

do wr mem

do reload

effectively remove SNMP process and I can start over, but this is really not an option ...

Hi,

no snmp-server command will completely disable the SNMP agent operation.

why can't you simple list out all not used strings and remove each one like below...

no snmp-server community nondictionaryword ro

I would suggest as per best practices to remove not only snmp but any config like routing or nating anything best way is, copy your running config to notepad and find out which statement you don't want then remove one by one by adding "no" before the statement....

Hope this helps you...

Thanks for your reply,

I "live" in a large enterprise network, with centralize NMS.

What you sugguest is fine if I was to configure one or two, maybe 40 devices.

But not several hundres ... I configure my devices via a NMS template config - not by hand

I can not simply put NO infront of every snmp-server line, simply because I do not know what commands are in the config to start with.

from the few control-samles I have made I see lots of differrent commands in the devices.

Regards

Martin
