Hello .....

I have 2960 switch and i can't access it using my console cable .

I can access other switches in my network ( 3560 & 2960 ) but i can't access only this switch.

may be the console port in the switch damaged? or it's a bug ?? !!! although the switch is worked normally.

Hi,
In the following video step by step process has been shown how to Connect Cisco Router or Switch using PuTTY and Console Cable as well as how to Change Text Color, Font Size, Background color permanently on PuTTY.

First Download and install PuTTY (emulator terminal software) from https://www.putty.org/

Step 1: Attach the DV9 Female end of Console cable with the DV9 Male end of the USB to DV9 Serial Converter and then connect the RJ54 connector end of the Console cable to the Cisco router or Switch.
First check the COM port number

Step 2: Check the COM Port number:
=> Go Device Manager->Port (COM & LPT)-> check USB Serial Port (COM port)

Step 3: Open Putty
-> Select Connection Type to "Serial"
-> in Serial Line change the COM port number exactly which we checked in step 2.
-> click open and a black window will appear and press Enter finally it will access the Cisco Device.
-> Type "enable" to go to privilege mode.

Hii

Even I was facing the same problem with 2960, then I tried changing the baud rates, at 57600 my problem solved.

Serial line configuration

speed              57600

data bits          8

Stop bit           1

Parity              None

Flow control    None

I seem to be having this issue as well. Ive tried modifying the baud rates to 57600 and no luck. I also tried the 2400 baud rate and reload with console still plugged in and got nothing but a blank screen still. I was digging and found a 3750 driver and downloaded that and still no luck. Im glad I am not the only one but im jealous of the ones who got this to work lol!

Can you tell us for sure that this console cable connection and terminal emulator work successfully on other switches? If so we can focus on issues with this switch. Otherwise we need to consider the possibility that the issue is with the connection not the switch.

If you connect to the console and power cycle the switch do you get any output on the console?

Correct this console cable I am using (USB - RJ45) and emulator (SecureCRT and PuTTy) work fine with my other devices and at my job. This is an old switch we pulled out of production and ever since I havent been able to console into it. While in production we used an out-of-band mgmt device to get to it via rj45 and that worked fine but ever since then cant get into it. Like I have said, Ive done everything above and changed my baud rates all over the place and still no luck.

I will also add I get a link light on the console as well and it shows in my device manger. Win10x64
