I need to find out if OSPF can be configured on the outdated (probably eol) L3 switches WS-C3750G-24TS-1U and WS-C4506-E. Can't find an official document from Cisco to confirm that OSPF (version 1 or version 2?) is supported. The neighboring OSPF devices will be VMware Velocloud SDWAN devices (640 and 610 models).

Your 3750G may need the IPServices IOS to provide OSPF (yours appears to have the IPBase IOS - which might only support RIP).
Your 4500 is also running an IPBase IOS and has the sup 6L. The latter, a sup with the "L", is a feature limited version versus the sup 6. Cannot recall all the particulars, for restrictions/limitations, on a "L" sup, but such a sup and/or the IPBase IOS may preclude running OSPF.
To confirm, on either, whether OSPF is provided, insure IP routing is enabled and try to configure router ospf #.
If OSPF is supported, it will be OSPFv2 (for IPv4).

Thanks for your response. I thought the ip base feature set is identical across all IOS models and includes a limited version of OSPF. We might not require the full version of OSPF.

"Identical", no - similar, yes. (At least on switches, one reason, different switch series have different architectures - on the Cat 4500, architectures differs between sups too.)
". . . and includes a limited version of OSPF."
I too do recall (?) some switches offering a very restricted variant of OSPF and/or EIGRP. Likely such a feature would be the kind that might vary (if provided) across different platforms, even with the same IOS feature level. (Also remember, not all products always offer the same feature sets. For example, initially, 3750s had an IPBase, IPServices, and IPAdvancedServices feature IOSs. Later, Cisco combined IPServices and IPAdvancedServices into just one feature set, on the 3750 platform.)
I further recall (?) the "lobotomized" variants of OSPF and/or EIGRP were oriented for edge devices, not transit routing devices.

That's a 3750G and it can go up to 15.0(2)SE train.
Look for an IOS version with "ipservicesk9" in the filename and OSPF will work.
12-05-2022 06:21 AM
Will I not need a license to install the "ipservicesk9" image? If that is the case I think we're better off replacing the switch with a newer model.

"Will I not need a license to install the "ipservicesk9" image?"
On a 3750G . . . Need license to install - no. Need license to legally use - yes.

Hello
in short - yes those switch will support ospf, but I would say you would require at least ipservices/ advipservices or adventerprise train software.
