Packet Tracer - ICMP ECHO-REPLY does not show up in event list

Hello Cisco community,

I am a Phd student trying to teach Networks by doing some simulations with Packet Tracer and I am observing something curious about the simulation mode.

Here is my experiment:

• Config:

- PC4 14.15.16.1 255.255.255.0 GW 14.15.16.254

- Router Gig 0/0 14.15.16.254 255.255.255.0 Gig 0/1 21.22.23.254 255.255.255.0

- PC5 21.22.23.1 255.255.255.0 GW 14.15.16.254

• Description:

I want to observe the ARP and ICMP packets that flow between PC4, the Router and PC5 as I ping PC5 from PC4.

To do so, I go in simulation mode, select Simple PDU, click on PC4 and then PC5 and here we go: I press Play!

Then, something curious happens. I can see the ARP exchanges between PC4 and the Router followed by the sending of the ICMP, I can also see the ARPs between the router and PC5. However, the ECHO-REPLY is not shown. The simulation ends on an ARP packet (see Picture).

- Is there an explanation to this phenomenon that I am missing?

- 2nd how can I empty the router's ARP table to observe this phenomenon again ? (I tried $clear arp-cache but it did not work for me)

I apologies in advance if my question is stupid or if someone already answered it...  I am new to PT and the Cisco community. I tried to research my problems and couldn't find anything on the forum, but I might still miss something.

Thank you all very much for your help.

Cheers,

Marina

You can directly go to the PC4 and in desktop --> Cmd
ping PC5 ip and click on simulation , you will see all the packets.
