I am attempting to do a password recovery on a 3850 switch stack running 03.06.05E. When I bring up ROMMON I cannot enter the command SWITCH_DISABLE_PASSWORD=0 because it is read only.
I attempt to bring up express setup because whenever I reboot it brings up the existing configuration which I cannot enter into.
How do I blow off the existing config so that I can re-enter it in?

Hi,
Try following the instructions on this link:-

I managed to get in. The steps that I took were:
Power cycle the switch and hold down the Mode button until it brings you into ROMMON.
Enter in the command switch: SWITCH_IGNORE_STARTUP_CFG=1
(This doesn't seem to work since it still continues to load the config with the unknown passwords.)
Enter the command switch: boot flash:packages.conf
Let the system reboot.
It will come up with the prompt for entering the initial setup.
Press n for NO
This places you into a blank config and from here you can proceed with the normal password recovery (i.e. copy the startup config into running config and change the passwords).
