Dudes

we have two routers providing 2 different feeds , if we have one DR, multicast groups on non-dr has not been forwarded to segment.

Can we have two pim DR elected on single LAN segment based on multicast groups?

Many thanks

Rajesh

Hello Rajesh,

I do not believe it is possible to have several PIM DR routers on a segment, differentiated by the multicast group. A PIM DR router is elected based on data in Hello packets that are sent by all PIM routers, even during periods of no multicast flow delivery. In other words, DR routers are elected as soon as PIM routers hear each other, without regard to the multicast group.

Best regards,

Peter

Regards

Rajesh
