PLATFORM_RPC-3-SEND_FAIL flooding the logs

Dear Community,

We have recently installed two 2960-X stacks in our network. To be exact 2 stacks of 5 each of the WS-C2960X-48TD-L switches.

As we analyze the logs each day we have noticed that the logs are flooded with the error message:

%PLATFORM_RPC-3-SEND_FAIL: Failed to send RPC message in class 5, req 14,
-Traceback= 556CF4z 29AADA0z 29A9CF0z 26A0650z 278A76Cz 2E3A760z 2E36460z

Since it is rated as an error I guess it is serious. Nevertheless the switches perform without a noticeable fault.

Our running IOS version is: Cisco IOS 15.2(2)E7 (UNIVERSALK9)

I have not found any leads by googling what this message is trying to tell me.

Could someone help?

Hi,

The closest bug I can see is this.

https://bst.cloudapps.ciscocom/bugsearch/bug/CSCuv57274/?referring_site=bugquickviewredir

Traceback errors usually show up because of software issues and you may not see any effect in the short run but it will eventually crash and reboot the device. Also, you may want to open a ticket with TAC on this and send them the logs.

Just for fun I have disabled the VMPS on the switch: the message disappeared.

It seems that you have identified the bug!

Does anyone have any idea if it will be fixed?

Should we take this bug seriously?

If you don't need VMPS then I would keep it disabled so, the error stay away for now until Cisco has a fix. I did not see a fix in the bug release for now.  If you disable VMPS and the message comes back, I would open a ticket with TAC to investigate.
