plug different cable

we have a old router R0, running ospf and bgp with backbone router Rb, R0 is backup path for bgp. we have another router R2, which is bgp primary path router. R0 has two interface, one with service provider, the other is lan interface connected with a switch, so two cables connected

we want to replace R0, we buy a new router R1, copy and paste all configuration through console, now we unplug 2 cables  from R0, should we  plug the cable( connected to  service provider ) to R1 first or should we plug the cable (which is connected to our LAN network) to R1 first?

Hi

If it is a new Router (R1) and it is working as backup, you can connect the cable to the LAN first in order to verify if R1 is reachable from the LAN, verify if everything is working fine and then you can connect the cable to the Provider. I don't know your network but be sure everything works as previously.

Hope it is useful

:-)

while hardware upgrading .
isolating old hardware : disable uplink (secondary link)while lan port is still up . make sure all dependency hosts are working fine with primary link . now disable lan port that makes old router isolated from network

new hardware : enable lan port first make sure dependency hosts are still working fine with primary link still .enable uplink port for new router , make sure that its still backup link . traffic floe not affected.
