Hi All,

we have a 4500 Switch  cisco WS-C4507R+E

IOS version : cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.150-2.SG7.bin

We keep receiving the below LOGs non-stop & its only on 1 switch this logs are getting generated

%PM-4-PORT_CONSISTENT: STANDBY:Port Gi1/14 consistency has been restored, IDB state: down.
%PM-4-PORT_INCONSISTENT: STANDBY:Port Gi1/14 is inconsistent: IDB state  up (set 00:00:03 ago), link: down (1y29w ago),

Gi1/14 port is connected to user PC which is working fine

below is SSO status:

Mod  Redundancy role     Operating mode      Redundancy status

----+-------------------+-------------------+----------------------------------

3   Active Supervisor   SSO                 Active

4   Standby Supervisor  SSO                 Standby hot

In the LOG descriptions, i found the following explanation, but i need to know the reason WHY this log is being generated & how to stops this .

Error Message    PM-4-PORT_CONSISTENT:Port [char] consistency has been restored

Explanation    The port manager on the standby supervisor engine discovered that the port state became consistent again.

Recommended Action    This is an informational message only. No action is required.

Error Message    PM-4-PORT_INCONSISTENT: Port [char] is inconsistent: IDB state  [char] (set %TE ago)

Explanation    The port manager on the standby supervisor engine discovered that the port state was inconsistent for more that one second. Inconsistent ports are reactivated on switchover (you will see the PORT_BOUNCED message).

Recommended Action    This is an informational message only. No action is required.

Any idea about what could be the reason that is generating these Logs & how to stop that as well ?

Hi,

%PM-4-PORT_CONSISTENT: STANDBY:Port Gi1/14 consistency has been restored, IDB state: down.
%PM-4-PORT_INCONSISTENT: STANDBY:Port Gi1/14 is inconsistent: IDB state  up (set 00:00:03 ago), link: down (1y29w ago

This error message means:

++ The port manager on the standby supervisor engine discovered that the port state has been inconsistent for more than one second.

++  Inconsistent ports are reactivated on switchover (you will see the PORT_BOUNCED message).

Please save the config and do a switchover.

Also check the bootvariables of both the supervisors (they should be the same) before you do the switchover.

Steps:

#sh bootvar  (shows bootvariable for both active & standby)

#wr mem

#redundancy force-switchover

I have this problem too , sample message log below .   I would like to know please what is meant by an inconsistent port in this context.    We had an outage  shortly afterwards ( supervisor switched over but uplinks did not come up , so we then had to coldstart) so I would like to know what was the significance of that message.

thank you.
