Hi Guys,

We have a 24 port and 48 port 3560 E switches with identical IOS

the 48 port switch supports private vlan while 24 port switch doesnt

Can you please let me know if it is possible to configure private vlans on 24 ports 3560e

and is it best practise to configure private vlan on this platform(3560)?

IOS version : C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

                    flash:/c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3/c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.bin

Kindly suggest

Hi Rohit,

Could you provide the output of show version from the 24 port switch.

It may that you are currently running Universal (Lan Base) featureset on this switch which does not support p-vlan. You would required Universal (IP Base or IP Service) for p-vlans.

If the IOS support the private vlan then then there is no problem for running the private vlan for 3560e switch.

Hope that helps

Hi Najaf,

Definitely helpful....

i had checked it as well that the 48 port switch is running IP Base while 24 port is running LAN base.

Since then we are trying to find out the diference between the two licences but i could nt get much info,

so can u please explain what are key differences

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Are you sure your devices are 3560e and not X? 3560e switches are usually IP Base or IP services.

From Q&A doc:

Q. What are the different types of feature sets?

A. There are three types of software licenses: LAN Base, IP Base, and IP  Services. LAN Base is only supported on the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X,  3650-X, and Cisco Catalyst 2K switches.

• LAN Base: Enables basic Layer 2 forwarding and IPv4/IPv6 switch management.

•  IP Base: Enables Layer 2 forwarding, IPv6 management, and basic Layer 3  routing, including Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)  stub and Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) stub mode.

•  IP Services: Includes IP Base and enables advanced IPv4/IPv6 Layer 3  routing such as EIGRP, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), WCCP, VRF-lite,  PBR, and IPv4 multicast routing.
