Problem with 4500E VSS on standby switch

Hi,

I have created a 4500 VSS with two 4507E+R each one with one SUP8, with 3.6.3 version.

I have enterprises services license.

My issue is that if a connect for example a switch to the standby switch i have several lost pings to that switch, another example would be i have several switches connected to the VSS using an etherchannel, one connection to the active switch and another to the standby, evertything is working perfect, but it i disable the connection to the active switch, i have lost pings to those switches (i have tested a few), but with the active switch everything works perfectly.

Does anybody know what it could be?, do you think i am hitting on a bug.

best regards,

Juan Pablo

3.6.3 is a very, very old IOS. I'd recommend upgrading, to the latest 3.6.X, and see if there are any improvements.

Hi Leo,

i think i'll go with your sugestion, that was my first option...

If loosing a few pings is an issue I would switch to using LACP fast rate (assuming your other switch supports it as well).

Hi Philip,

thanks for your reply..

but the issue also appears if one switch has only one connection to the vss standby switch, without LACP, (or any etherchannel protocol).
