We've recently upgraded our 2960X switches to 15.2(6)E1 and now I have noticed that we can no longer session between switches in a stack. The command (switch1#session <1-8> switch number) used work up until we we upgraded from 15.2(4). Does anyone know why this command no longer works? It's very helpful when trying to troubleshoot individual swithes in a stack.
Thanks
Brian

Hello bkhipps,
It seems that your 2960X stack is hitting the following software defect:
https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvi25365/?reffering_site=dumpcr
IOS 15.2(6)E2 shows as a fixed release.

Hello
Are you remotely connecting to the stack or physically connecting via console?
Can you post the output of:
show switch detail
show switch xx <-- the one you trying to connect to?
show switch stack-ports
show switch neighbours

Paul,
It doesn't matter if you are remoted in via ssh or at the console - still not able to session between the switches.
Per your request:
Switch132#sh switch det
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 0038.df32.ec00
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
1 Member 0038.df35.4100 1 4 Ready
*2 Master 0038.df32.ec00 1 4 Ready
Stack Port Status Neighbors
Switch# Port 1 Port 2 Port 1 Port 2
--------------------------------------------------------
1 Ok Ok 2 2
2 Ok Ok 1 1
Switch132#sh switch 1
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 0038.df32.ec00
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
1 Member 0038.df35.4100 1 4 Ready
Switch132#sh switch stack-ports
Switch # Port 1 Port 2
-------- ------ ------
1 Ok Ok
2 Ok Ok
Switch132#sh switch neigh
Switch # Port 1 Port 2
-------- ------ ------
1 2 2
2 1 1
This is what you see now when you try to session between stack members:
Switch132#session 1
Connections to that host not permitted from this terminal
Prior to the IOS upgrade, the same command would take you to another switch in the stack and your propmt would change to indicate the stack member.
Switch132-1#
Thanks
Brian

Hello
Can your confirm your stack cabling.
Physically is should be cabled diagonally between each switch?
switch 1 switch 2
port 1 <-> port 2
port 2 <-> port 1
Also when your connected to the master > type
Master# disable <enter>
Master>enable <enter>
Do you get an error or a prompt for credentials?

Paul,
Stack cables are good.
132#sh switch stack-ring speed
Stack Ring Speed : 20G
Stack Ring Configuration: Full
Stack Ring Protocol : FlexStack
When I switched from privileged exec to user mode it prompted me for a password when I tried to go back to privilege exec it prompted me for a password.
I believe the problem is with the IOS. That was the only thing that changed on this and all of our other switch stacks.
We tested this functionality on 15.2(5) on a stack with a default configuration and the "session" command worked. After going to 15.2(6)E1, it stopped working.
Thanks
Brian

Thanks for the info - I'll upgrade the IOS on one of the stacks and give it try.
