QoS/CoS lab help

Andy White

Hi,

Firstly I apologies if this is the wrong forum fo such a post.

I'm trying to create a lab to learn Qos/CoS and also for part of my CCNP switch studies.  Basically we will be putting un VOIP so I want to start understanding the basics, but my boss has mentioned he would like to priorities certain traffic on our LAN soon, so I need a head start.  I've read that Diffserv (mark and classify) is that most popular way to go and I find doing the physical configuration is the only way it sinks in, so I have a couple of 3560s and couple of 2960s, so I wondered once you have configured QoS how do you know it is actually working?

I am going to use this link to help me understand:

http://www.petri.co.il/qos-marking-and-classification.htm

but if you guys know of a better example I would really appreciate it, just to get me going.

thanks

Andy,

I would seriosly recommend that you have a look at the medinet QOS docs.

These are most prevelant for a modern network.

I will do thanks,

So what is the differences between QoS and CoS?

Regards

Hi Andy,

CoS is the classification of specific traffic (at layer 2) by

manipulating the class of service bits (in the frame header). It

effectively 'marks' the traffic so that QoS can use this

identification/classification as a means to actually manipulate the

traffic according to your policy. It is one way to identify traffic

(along with ToS, ACLs, etc) so that QoS knows what to manipulate and how.

Furthermore details explanation found in the below link;
