Hi !

I'm not famillar we CatOS, so I would like to understand the following :

"set trunk 3/1  off negotiate   2-200"

my understanding of "off" argument and "negotiate" argument are contractditionnary to each other the first disable trunking and the second one negotiate it !  We also specifiiyng vlan ID which are allowed or not on this interface !

I know this configuration command is permit, because I see it on production switch !

someone could explain to me ?

Thanks !

I understand what you mean. It says in the command reference:

To configure trunk ports and to add VLANs to the allowed VLAN list for existing trunks, use the set trunk command.

set trunk mod/port {on | off | desirable | auto | nonegotiate} [vlans]
[isl | dot1q | dot10 | lane | negotiate]

off

Forces the port to become a nontrunk port and persuade the neighboring port to become a nontrunk port. The port becomes a nontrunk port even if the neighboring port does not agree to become a nontrunk port.

negotiate

(Optional) Specifies that the port become an ISL (preferred) or 802.1Q trunk, depending on the configuration and capabilities of the neighboring port.

But here is an example that might help clarify:

Apparently you are turning of trunking / DTP but allowing the formation of an etherchannel. In this exmaple its connected to a workstation/server. Is that also true in your network?

Ian

Hi !

no !  the switch is connected to a Cisco router in my configuration....  Base on my understanding the etherchannel is mostly setup by

Cat6000 (enable)set port channel 5/1-2 mode on

Port(s) 5/1-2 channel mode set to on.

Cat6000 (enable)

than thoses one

set trunk 5/1  off negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094

!--- Trunking is disabled.

set trunk 5/2  off negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094

!--- Trunking is disabled.

But, we see same command I see in my switch !

Thanks !

Hi,

#module 5 : 48-port 10/100BaseTX Ethernet
set trunk 5/1  off negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094

!--- Trunking is disabled.

set trunk 5/2  off negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094

!--- Trunking is disabled.
