Is there a 10GE Twinax cabling standard and does it mandate passive cables when coming in lengths of 1, 3 and 5m? I dont believe there is any such standard and I know that other vendors sell 1,3 and 5m Twinax as ACTIVE.
Anyone?
Thanks

Hi,
I would recommend checking the following link for more details:

Thanks, but that doesn't help me at all. I know that Cisco makes passive 1,3 and 5m Twinax. I am asking about whether there is an industry open standard for twinax cables (10GE), and what that standard, if it exists, says about passive and active twinax.

Regulatory and Standards Compliance
• SFP+ MSA SFF-8431 (Optical Modules and Passive Twinax cables)

• SFP+ MSA SFF-8461 (Active Twinax cables)

Hopefully this helps.

Thank you.
So, it seems to me that the answer to my question is that there are two standards that include Twinax specifications, one for passive and the other for active Twinax. That having been said, there is no specification mandating any particular type of Twinax for any particular type of length.
