I recently got a ws-x4516-10ge but it does not post.
I noticed that the sodimm slot on the board is not populated and suspect that is the culprit.
The only information I could find about it is that Cisco specifies 512MB SODIMM SDRAM for Supervisor Engine V-10GE.
What options do I have for populating the slot?
Does the ram have to be ECC or can it be any DDR/SDRAM?
Does it have to be 512MB as specified by Cisco or can it be 256MB or 1GB?
Since RAM can be expensive, especially ECC, I don't want to purchase the wrong thing. Thank you.

Do you even get to ROMMON?
I just logged onto one of these and it reports it has 512MB of memory. It is remote to me, so I can't check what actual DIMMs are installed. I don't believe the memory is intended to be upgradable.

I'm not getting anything when I connect through a console cable and the status light stays dark, the activity lights all light up and some of the link lights also light up.
I have a second supervisor module that works. It can see that another supervisor is installed but cant read the model or serial of the unit with the missing DIMM.

This defect notice suggests it is ECC memory.
