Hi all.

I need to rate-limit my traffic to 100 KB (its kilo byte). I am confused in parameters

1) Bits per second

2) Normal Burst (byte per sec)

3) Maximum Burst (byte per sec)

Can someone tell me the appropriate values for above if i want to rate-limit my internet traffic for particular user to 100 KB ?

Hi Jonn,

it is 100 KB, kilog bytes per second.

Example to 8 Mbps the a burst size of 100 KB. The burst size is the trickiest part of this command. If the burst is set too low, your traffic will not be able to approach the maximum allowed throughput do to packet drops.

Hope that is cleare, if not please tell bit clearly what you are looking to achive.

Do you need any configuration examples like that?

Regards,

Naidu.

Sir basically i want to calculate for 4 MB. If for 8 Mb its 100 KB. so for 4MB it will be 50 KB ?

Hi,

The verified that both the normal and maximum burst can be set to a minimum value which depends on the following rule:

  • for policing rates up to 4 Mbps, the minimum value is equal to 2000 bytes;
  • for policing rates larger than 4 Mbps, the minimum value can be derived according to the following rule: Min_size = policing_rate / 2000

Hope this cleare you.

Please rate the all helpufll posts.

naidu.
