Routers R5, R6, R10, and R11 talk each other by static route, and all other routers are using either RIPv6, OSPFv6 or EIGRP. Routers with dynamic routing protocols are working fine, and routers with static routes is also working very well. To go from static zone to dynamic zone static route is redistributed into OSPF in router R6. Static networks are visible in the dynamic zone but not pingable. Please see attached network topology and configuration below, and advise me.
Thanks,
Mostafa

It is very difficult to help here because it such a complicated setup.
For example you are using 3 different routing protocols and a virtual link for some reason.
The main thing though is you haven't told us what the source and destination IPs of the pings are and whether we are seeing all the relevant routing tables.
The standard way to troubleshoot this is to look at the routing tables at each hop and make sure that there are routes for both the source and destination IPs ie. just because you can see the routes you have redistributed does not mean you have routes for the return traffic as well.

I am trying to reach router R2 Loopback IP address from router R10 that has static route.
Thanks,
Mostafa

I can't see a static route for R2's loopback on R10.
Do you mean it is using the default route ?
And why do you have 4 default routes on R10, looking at the configuration and the diagram I would have thought there should be just two.
What is the source IP you are pinging from ?
Have you tried a traceroute to show you how far it is getting ?

R2 is using dynamic routing protocol and R10 has static. R6 is redistributing static into dynamic. I do not configure static route to R2 from R10. Now R10 has 2 default routes one for VLAN5 and another for VLAN6 for redundancy. My goal is to get out from static zone to dynamic zone, and come from dynamic zone to static zone.

R1O is actually showing 4 default routes but only two are valid as far as I can see.
Can you remove the two that are not valid and then try traceroute from R10 again ?

Traceroute is not hitting R5 upstream router from R10 that also has static route.

Sorry for the delay in getting back.
Can you temporarily add a static to R10 for R2's loopback pointing to R5 and try traceroute again.
This is not a fix, I just want to see if the packet then gets to R5.

02-10-2016 12:21 PM
Okay just checked your configurations again.
On R6 you do not have an interface in vlan 6 and I suspect when you pinged from R10 using the default route it was trying to send it to R6.
Can you first remove the static route for R2's loopback, then remove the default route pointing to R6 and retest.
This should mean R10 uses it's default to R5.
If that works then add a vlan 6 subinterface to R6, add the default via R6 back and then try to ping.
Jon
02-10-2016 01:06 PM
Hi Jon,
I removed static route that pointed to R2. R10 has default route pointing to 2 directions for redundancy one to R5 and another one to R11 nothing pointed to R6. Please see below.
S ::/0 [1/0]
via 2001:1237:CC45:C005::1 --> Router R5
via 2001:1237:CC45:C006::2 --> Router R11
Ping test to R2 now:
R10# ping 2001:1237:CC45:CF02:21E:7AFF:FEAE:6100
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2001:1237:CC45:CF02:21E:7AFF:FEAE:6100, timeout is 2 seconds:
.!..!
Success rate is 40 percent (2/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/1/2 ms
Ping to R6:
R10#ping 2001:1237:CC45:CF06:21E:F6FF:FEEF:600
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2001:1237:CC45:CF06:21E:F6FF:FEEF:600, timeout is 2 seconds:

Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/1/2 ms
02-10-2016 01:17 PM
Apologies, I misread your diagram.
R6 should not have an interface in vlan 6 it should be R11 and it does so ignore last bit.
It seems to be something with the default route ie. you have statics for R6's loopback and those pings work but you are relying on default for R2's loopback.
Can you post routing tables of R2, R5, R6, R10 and R11.
Jon

Can you do the ping using R10s loopback and see if it works ?
Jon
02-16-2016 12:01 PM
Hi Jon,
The problem has been solved. There were few static routes missing and also routing was present. They are reachable from each other. Router R6 has 3 dynamic routes and also static route, so there was routing loop for OSPF external route so I increased the AD to 171 for external route, so problem solved. Thank you for your all efforts what you did for me.
Thanks,
Mostafa
