Hi,

I am trying to answer some part of your question.

Since I work on platform: 7600,10k,GSR and as per this platform.

MSFC and PFC are internal part of SUP engine and not a separate one.

Regards

Mahesh

Hi,

Sup engine works with both Cisco & CatOS.

CatOS on the Supervisor Engine and Cisco IOS Software on the MSFC (Hybrid): a CatOS image can be used as the system software to run the Supervisor Engine on Catalyst 6500/6000 switches. If the optional MSFC is installed, a separate Cisco IOS Software image is used to run the MSFC.

Cisco IOS Software on both the Supervisor Engine and MSFC (Native): a single Cisco IOS Software image can be used as the system software to run both the Supervisor Engine and MSFC on Catalyst 6500/6000 switches.

Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC). The MSFC effectively provides the high-performance routing functions for a multilayer Catalyst 6000 or 6500. The MSFC route processor is another daughtercard on an MSFC module.

Regarding MSFC and PFC cards, it depends on the typr of sup you have like say...
The Supervisor Engine 32 is the most recent addition to the Cisco Catalyst 6500 supervisor engine family. This supervisor engine provides an integrated PFC3B and MSFC2a by default

And in the Supervisor Engine PFC3 and Multilayer Switch Feature Card 3 (MSFC3) into the one supervisor module

Hope the above will help you.

Hi Mr.Naidu,

Thanks for your reply. I was clarified now.

So, MSFC runs with onlly CISCO IOS.

Sup engine runs with both CatOS and CISCO IOS.
