A router failed at a remote location and the backup router was made primary. A 3800 series was configured and sent to the remote location however the no shut command was not used once the router was configured and shipped so now I have a router I can not connect to. I was told I could unplug the T1 from the primary and plug that into the replacement router and configure it but, I am not sure of exactly how to do this? or can I get to the router through the switch?

You simply need to connect the T1 circuit to the router and then try and telnet/ssh to the IP address.
It's not entirely clear what you have at the remote site. Do you normally have 2 routers, a primary and backup with 2 T1 circuits ? And if so why are you talking about moving the T1, do you mean move it from the broken router to the replacement one.

If the interfaces are adminstratively shutdown you can't do anything. If they were simply down when you connected it to the switch the interface may well have come up and you might be able to get to ti via the switch.

Thanks Jon for the quick reply....I am the new guy and still needing to learn ALOT....I am fairly certain we did not do a no shut before it was shipped so what you are saying is there is nothing that can be done? or are you thinking if we waited x time it might come up?
Just for knowledge how do I connect to it through the switch? currently it is not pingable

As Reza says, did you configure an IP on the LAN interface on the router ? If the WAN interface was not shutdown you could try moving the T1 across.
If the router was connected to the switch the the switchport needs to be assgned into the correct vlan or you won't be able to ping it.

As long as you did not demonstratively shut the interface if you connect the other T1 it will bring the interface up. If the interface that is connecting to your switch is not admin down then you can connect via that interface. Of course this means you have already configured the interface with IP etc...before shipping it. If you brought down the interfaces administratively then no interface can bring them up. You have to console to the device.

The config was done and it was saved before shipped

So I am fairly sure it is not admin down and even if it is I still would like to try and connect through the T1 for a learning experience. How do I connect through T1 interface?

Sorry for not being clear....as I said I am very new and doing the best I can to be as clear as I can
Jon, I think you have told me what I need to know
We have one T1 that is connected to the primary router, there is another router in the rack so if the main fails the wires are moved. Hope that makes sense

If you did not admin down the T1 interface, then you can connect the original cable to it and should come up. There is no need to move the working T1 from one router to the new one. Remember the T1on the other router most likely has an IP in a different segment then what you have configured on this new one.
so, 2 options
1-If you did not admin down the interface then you are good to go. simply telnet to the IP
2-if you shut the interface then have some one with a laptop console to it and do a "no sh" on the T1 interface. Don't forget "wr"

Yes it has an IP configured

The router was plugged back into the same switchport as the failed router so it has been configured

Thank You for the help
I can not take it down until later this week but, I at least now have an idea of what to do
