Replacement for LAP1142n with WLC4402

Hi

We are running LAP1142n with WLC4402 backend in our indoor office environment and this has been pretty stable for the last 3 yrs. There is a need to expand the wireless network into a nearby building and I am wondering what is the recommended LAP model.

As 1142N are EOL, Cisco is no more selling them. The replacement 2600s require WLC to run 7.2 code and hence not supported by 4402 even on its latest version (7.0.240 with mine at 7.0.230 ). Was looking at 1262N until Cisco announced EOL in April, 2013. Although they are sold till Oct, 2013 - may not be a good idea to opt for a EOL product. 4402 itself is EOL but still there is longway until it goes obsolete.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Ok, you've got several choices. You can replace your 1140 with 3500. The 3500 is still supported in 7.0.235.X code but I can't guarantee how many more months left before Cisco will announce the EoS of the 3500.

You can replace your 4400 with either a 2504 or a 5508.

Straight up, you can replace 1140 with either the 1602, 2602 or 3602. I'd prefer using the 2602 or 3602.

Thanks Leo. We dont intend to upgrade wlc at this point...so I see only 3500i/e as the potential option but this is only a controller version. We are able to use 1142N both as LAP or autononous depending on where we are deploying them.

It looks like the new series of access-point are designed to support the increased usage of mobiles & tablets. We do have an issue where iphones/ipads fail to connect with the new key rotated weekly. They connect after multiple re-tries. TAC suggested to upgrade the wlc code which we did but the issue remains. Is this something anyone has observed and resolved with new APs?

Please go for 3500 series AP and replace WLC 2504 by 5500.
