Replacing a Sup2T on a 6500

Hi all,

I had a 6500 with two Sup2T's with version 15.1(1)SY on them. The standby Sup2T failed. I am waiting on delivery of a new Sup2T but just wondering are there any particular steps I need to carry out to replace it? Or is it just hot swappable and I plug in the new sup2T?

This configuration is on the 6500.

redundancy
 main-cpu
  auto-sync running-config
 mode sso

Hi,

SUP 2T is hot swappable, so you can simple remove the faulty SUP and insert the new one in the chassis. You need to have exact same IOS on both the SUPs to run the SSO redundancy, as you will receive a new SUP, it will have a different IOS version, so after inserting the new SUP into the chassis, you need to copy the IOS version of the older SUP to the new SUP, and then reload the new SUP. Once the new SUP is up with the same IOS as the other SUP, check the redundancy and change it to SSO.

Thanks

Make sure the replacement supervisor card has the same IOS to the existing card and, most important of all, NO CONFIGURATION.
