Our edge switching is a catalyst 4503-e, with a ws-x45-sup6l-e supervisor blade.
The supervisor blade has gone bad, it is causing the switch to freeze up and become unresponsive until we reboot it by pulling the power. Cisco has diagnosed the issue and sent us a new ws-x45-sup6l-e supervisor blade.
Our problem is, we have never had to replace a supervisor blade before, and are unclear on the process.
I know that the blades are hot swap-able. Is the process as simple as removing the defective supervisor module and installing the new supervisor module? Where is the config kept? Do I need to be concerned about the IOS level of the supervisor modules, and if so, how would I go about figuring out what ios is on the new supervisor blade?
Keep in mind, this is a 4503-e, so it doesn't support supervisor blade redundancy...
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated :)
