Replacing Dead Switch in Switch Stack

I have a switch that is toast and needs to be replaced. It is module 4 out of 6. When I run a show switch I can only see 5 active switches and the one for number 4 says "provisioned"

My question is if I slide the broken unit out and replace with an identical model, do I need to do any additional switch configs or will the stack recognize the replacement as blade 4 and install the config?

Hi,

1-Upgrade the new switch to whatever version is running on the stack

2-Make sure the new switch has the same license level as the stack

3-Provision the switch and configure it with the same priority as the bad one

4-Unplug the stack cable and power cord from the bad switch

5-Add the new switch to the stack, connect the stack cables, and finally turn on the switch.

Ensure you do this in a maintenance window, just in case.

Sorry, I forgot to include that it is a C9300-48UXM being replaced.

Beautiful. This was very helpful. Thank you Reza!

Coming back to update that your steps worked flawlessly and I was able to swap the device in a live environment. The stack didn't go down and the replacement switch was accepted / kept config.

Thank you again!

Thanks for the update

I am glad to know the steps worked as expected.

Good luck!
