Replacing SUP of core switch/Need Help in VTP configuration

Hi Experts,

Tomorrow I am going to replace malfunctioning SUP card of our one primary Core switch, but i am in confusion about VTP.

let me explain the senerio, we have two core switches connected each other through ether-channel and running HSRP, VTP is running in server mode on both core switches and 6 access switches are connected from both core switches through redundant uplinks, VLAN database & VTP revision no is synchronized in between all core & access switches. so how i reconfigure my primary Core switch, So VTP do not rewrite my secondary core switches & all connected access switches VLAN database.

please help.

Hi,

VTP should not change since you have 2 redundant core switches in the same VTP domain. When you bring down the sup for replacement, all your access switches should be talking VTP to the other switch.

Once the sup is replaced make sure to load the same exact config from the old sup and all should work when you bring the new sup back online.

HI reza,

ye i am going to place OLD config in new SUP, so is there need to configure this switch in standby, disconnect all uplinks of access switches or disconnect port channel connecting to secondary core switch.

please little bit explore the senerio.
