route redistribution

Hi,

Iam integrating firewalls into our network which has connectivity to other vendors using Border routers running BGP. The distribution of these learned routes into our network is by OSPF. We are running OSPF in all switches to learn the routes between locations. Once we integrate Checkpoint firewalls in between Iam sure the distribution will get affected. Has anyone had any issues/learnings doing such activity. Can you pls share the same.

Thanks in advance.!

I believe the general approach about redistributing BGP into OSPF is to avoid it if possible and to be very cautious if you do it. One of the main issues is the potential to have a very large number of routes in the BGP table being redistributed into OSPF. BGP is designed to work with very large tables (think the Internet routing table) while OSPF is not.

If you are going to redistribute from BGP into OSPF you might think about implementing some kind of filtering on the redistribution to prevent unwanted routes from getting into your interior protocol.
