Hello folks,
We have a Router ISR2 2921 with his 512MB on DRAM , last week, we inserted a memory of 1GB of DRAM that we bought to have 1.5 on DRAM, problem is that we can not see if in fact this router has detected the new DRAM. Checking literature we found the next:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme91spc.html
It seems that Router only supports up 1GB, first doubt is,
It is possible diable (through a command ) 512DRAM memory card with out remove the card?
Document speaks about recomended DRAM, it is posible to have 1.5GB of DRAM for this model?
Thanks a lot for your attention, have a great day.

Both DRAMs must be of the same size. You can't have 512 mb and another 1 Gb. You need both to be either 512mb or 1 Gb.
Think of it as the old-style/first generation of Pentium computer memory requirements. Those ECC chips of those days are very similar to the DRAM chips being used today.
FYI: The reason is because the chips are manufactured for Cisco at BREAK-EVEN COST to the manufacturer. Translation: Cheap. Dirt friggin cheap.

Hi
The Data Sheet for the 2900 series suggests that the 2921 supports 2GB of RAM maximum:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps10537/data_sheet_c78_553896.html
Can you post a #show version?
Thanks

Hi,
The max that is supported is 2Gig, but not sure if you can have the existing 512 and add another 1Gig. To test, you may take out the existing 512 and see if the router recognizes the 1Gig module. If it does, than if you add a second module, you will have a total of 2Gig.

Hi,
This is the show version, problem is that we dont have support window to extract the 512 memory:

Hi,
Unfortunately, there is no other way to do this without opening the router. The added memory is not functioning anyway.

Ok, we try to open a support window, in case of malfunctioning, is there any command to see is the memories are Ok?.. Thanks a lot

Here is what I would do.
Turn off the router and take out the 512 memory and see if sh ver detects it.
If yes, you are good to go.
If it doesn't, than the router may not support the memory from the manufacture you purchased it from.
Did you buy the memory from a Cisco reseller and/or a 3rd party vendor that is approved by Cisco?
