Router VLAN configuration sugestions

Hi

We have a 2910 Router that manages our internet connection.

Unfortunaly we have run into a problem that is outside my experience and that is why i write here.

Our router sits after a fibre switch from our provider, to gain access through the fibre switch we have a VLAN and 7 IP adresses.

We must set the VLAN on the Outside Interface and on the VLAN the IP adresses.

Now my question is how do I configure the Router to have VLAN 42 and have multible IP adressses on the same interface?

I have configured it with VLAN and one IP address but it will not accept a secondary ip setting on the VLAN.

Hope someone here know how to do this, or have a sugestion on how to setup this in a better way.

Thanks in advance.

Nils

Hello Nils,

Could you perhaps add a simple diagram of your current network, illustrating what you are trying to accomplish? I am not quite certain I understand what your requirements are.

Best regards,

Peter

Well the setup is fairly simple

Out internet connection is a fibre connection terminated in a switch delivered by our ISP.

The ISP internet switch requires us to communicate with it on VLAN 42.

We have 4 IP Adresses avaliable xxx.xxx.xxx.74 to xxx.xxx.xxx.77

At pressent time we are using VLAN 42 with IP xxx.xxx.xxx.74 and it works fine.

The question is how do we add another IP to the VLAN allready running?

We need it to deliver an IP to our server on the DMZ part of our lan.

What im looking for is a best practice approach to this.

I know the Firewall solution could be build into the Router but don't ask why the other solution has been chosen.

Below is rouch drawing of current setup

Hi Nils,

Try to add the secondary Ip under the vlan like below and see...

interface Vlan10
ip address 192.168.5.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
