Hi all, when routing a packet say from one vlan to the other, does the ethernet frame get stripped and replaced with the new layer 2 source and dest addresses ie the routers mac as source etc ?

Hi Carl,

When there is a router in place, the source addres will be changed to the routers mac address. The destination address will be unchanged.

I have been told that the destination can sometimes change, ie if the frame goes over multiple hops, the destination mac will be the next hop router !!
