Hello all,
I think I need an extra set of eyes for my setup as I seem to be having issues with the simplest of settings.
I have two 2621xm's both running IOS 12.4. Here are the basic settings:
R1
FastEthernet0/0 IP address: 192.168.1.1 MASK 255.255.255.128
Serial0/0 IP address: 192.168.3.1 MASK 255.255.255.252
ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.3.2
R2
FastEthernet0/0 IP address: 192.168.10.1 MASK 255.255.255.0
Seral0/0 IP address: 192.168.3.2 MASK 255.255.255.252
ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.128 192.168.3.1
Both routers are connected VIA the serial interface
The problem is that I'm unable to ping 192.168.10.1 from interface 192.168.1.1 (and vice-versa) however, I AM able to ping 192.168.3.2.
What am I missing. it seems R2 is unable to route from the serial interface to the fastethernet interface? I can't even ping 192.168.10.1 from 192.168.3.2 on the same router.
What am I missing?
Thank you in advance.

Is the interface (fa0/0) UP? If nothing is connected to it, is is likely down, and therefore will not respond.

...Something so stupid. Thank you! That was the problem exactly.
Thanks again!

No no...trust me. I still catch myself doing that at times. Unplugging something or shutting down an interface to test...then later wondering why a route isn't showing up or a ping isn't working.
But the "best" ones are when you forget you're logged in remotely, and start changing things on your vty path. It's amazing how quickly the mind realizes the difference in typical sluggish SSH response and the longer "pause" you get when you've just hosed your session.
Good luck! -Ed
