Seeing %MLS-4-FIB_TCAM_FULL:FIB TCAM full

I have a customer that is seeing the following error message:

%MLS-4-FIB_TCAM_FULL:FIB TCAM full

This message indicates that a new FIB entry could not be installed in the hardware FIB TCAM table because the table is full. As a result, any packets that encounter a hardware FIB lookup miss will be sent to the MSFC for software forwarding.

Recommended Action: This is a hardware restriction. You can reduce the number of routes on the switch by load sharing with other switches or upgrade the supervisor engine to a larger FIB TCAM capacity.

Is there a supervisor card that will have a larger FIB TCAM capacity than a SUP720?

Hello Richard,

not all sup720 are equal in terms of routing table and TCAM size.

unless you have already a Sup 720 3CXL or sup720 3BXL you should have some margin of improvement.

clearly this can be a sign that you have too many BGP upstream providers on same device for example

see

or

and comparison of all sup720 -xx

Also there are the RSP720 processor family for 7600 to be considered

or you need to move to GSR with PRP2 or ASR 1006 but this is a major change.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
