Hi Sir,

This server has one NIC card connected to a switchport. However, it is running Vmware software to enable it to run multiple virtual server in it. Customer would like to create multiple logical Ip address that bind to only one physical Ethernet interface. On the switchport, shall I configure it as an access port and bind to only one VLAN or configure it as a trunk port and allow the VLAN that the virtual server ip subnet they belong to.

Thank you.

Hi Delon,

Is the intent here to allow the server to participate in multiple subnets? If so, as long as the NIC supports 802.1q, the best method here is to configure the switchport as a trunk.

If not, I'm not sure what other options are available. If you configure the switchport as a standard access port, only the IP address that is in the same VLAN/subnet as the switchport will be able to communicate properly.

HTH,

Bobby
