Set metric +/-<metric>

Hi all.

In route-map, while redistribution or distribute list, when i was configuring the metric, i came across this paramter,

Router(config)#route-map test
Router(config-route-map)#set metric ?
+/-<metric>     Add or subtract metric
  <0-4294967295>  Metric value or Bandwidth in Kbits per second
  <cr>

Can some one tell what this parameter +/-<metric> does ? can someone give an example how it works. In eigrp, i tried to apply to incoming route but it didnt work at small values like 100,90,63, but as soon as i gave it a value like 6000, it increased the incoming prefix metric !

Any idea how this paramter works ?

Hello Hitesh,

very good job

clearly the set metric +value can influence only one component of EIGRP metric, I thought it could be delay your findings show that it is the bandwidth.

if so changes are not small

FD is related to received routes from neighbors so it can be correct that it doesn't change.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Dear Sir, but then why delay becomes zero ? i dont get your statement that FD reflects the receiving routes ? i mean i am applying distribute list in "in" direction so it should influence what it keeps in its topology table so why it doesnt ?

Pls correct me if i am wrong

I found the following link, and perhaps this parameter is not defined for eigrp. As you can see, its an unsupported command with unpredictable results when used. Check this link
