Set up a cisco SG 200-08 as a access switch

Hey guys,

We have installed an SG 200-08 switch in an office with users.

The uplink port connects to another switch, both are set as trunks.

I can manage the switch over the Webinterface (an IP Address is manually assigned)

We need this switch because we have no more network sockets.

The devices in that office only access one vlan (vlan 2).

But I do not like this solution.

Because everyone in this office can unplug the switch and plug in his own switch and form trunks.

Can I set up the SG 200-08 without trunking?

If so, is it still possible to assign an ip address for remote administration over the webinterface?

Our Management Ip Addresses are in default vlan 1.

Thanks in advcance!

Hi

On a layer 2 switch you have 2 options with a port set it as a trunk restrict vlans so only certain ones are allowed or set it as an access port for one particular vlan between switches

If that's the case both sides need to be set as the same access port vlan each side so then the switches can be connected just for that vlan though, so yes its possible to connect 2 switches without trunking

If your concerned about users plugging in unwanted switches i would look at port security instead and lock down the switch ports so they cant plug in 3rd party switches
