I am trying to uplink between 3com switch and cisco using Gigabit modules of 3com and cisco. Do I need to enable trunking for this uplink or just plug and play will be fine. Also 3 com speed is 100 Mbps So whats configuration used in cisco 2960 switch IOS 12.44SE release to set the speed to 100 Mbps. I set the bandwidth to 100 Mbps for Cisco gigabit modules. Will that be fine? An Immediate response will be highly appreciated

Trunking: If you have only one VLAN on either side, standard access port will do. If you have a requirement of using more than one VLAN in both switches, then you'll have to do trunking.

I assume that you are using fiber SFP? If yes then you'll have to purchase a 100 Mbps SFP.

In general, if you want to set the speed on a switchport, use the command "speed 100" on the interface.

Tip:

On the 2960, enter the gigabit interface configuration and then do:

media-type sfp <<<<<<<<

speed 100

duplex full

Otherwise you won't get the speed/duplex options

Right! Forgot that one.
