SG300-28P firmware update

Hi all,

I have in my hand an sg300-28p with firmware 1.3.0.62 and bootloader 1.1.0.6. I want to put it in the latest version (I'm aware of the in-between I have to do because of new bootloader version) but I don't see any firmware for my switch.

There are either SG300-28, SG300-28PP or SG300-MP. My first thought was to go with the SG300-28 one because I don't use PoE therefore I don't care to loose it, but I'm unsure.

Someone has been in this case or can help me see trough this problem ?

Thank you!

Even if @Mr Leo suggestion is generally good advice - you should download the appropriate software for your hardware, in this particular case it does not matter much. Let's take the two platforms, one without POE (SG300-28) and the other with POE (SG300-28PP), going to the download page  you can see additional details for the software image:

SG300-28

Description : Sx300 Firmware Version 1.4.11.5
Release : 1.4.11.5
Release Date : 18-Jun-2020
FileName : sx300_fw-14115.ros
Size : 7.15 MB ( 7494516 bytes)
MD5 Checksum : d986babe4a0b1b0630c3b2ebffbe339d
SHA512 Checksum : f008b9d0ebf21ad291c6560749263486 ...

SG300-28PP

Description : Sx300 Firmware Version 1.4.11.5
Release : 1.4.11.5
Release Date : 18-Jun-2020
FileName : sx300_fw-14115.ros
Size : 7.15 MB ( 7494516 bytes)
MD5 Checksum : d986babe4a0b1b0630c3b2ebffbe339d
SHA512 Checksum : f008b9d0ebf21ad291c6560749263486 ...

As you can see it's the same image, same description, size and checksum.

Hello @elwan ,

you can select SG300-28 and download the firmware without any problem. The firmware is the same for all SG300 platforms and based on specific hardware capabilities, for example POE, the software will activate this features as well.

Hope this helps.

To upgrade the firmware on your Cisco SG300-28P switch, it is first important to understand the difference between the SG300-28, SG300-28PP, and SG300-MP models. The main difference between these models is the PoE (Power over Ethernet) support and the power they can provide through this feature. The SG300-28P and SG300-28PPP support PoE, while the SG300-28 does not have PoE support. The SG300-MP offers improved PoE support over the SG300-28PP, providing more power per port.

If you do not use the PoE feature and do not plan to use it in the future, choosing firmware for the SG300-28 may seem like a logical decision. However, it is important to keep in mind that the firmware is designed to meet the hardware specifications of each model. Using firmware for a different model may cause unforeseen problems, even if current features such as PoE are not in use.
